As the holiday season unfolds, it’s the perfect time to slow down, reflect, and recalibrate.
For many of us, the year has been a whirlwind, and carving out intentional time to rest and prepare for the year ahead is not just a luxury—it’s a necessity.
This holiday season, I’m celebrating a deeply personal milestone: my 6-year sobriety anniversary on January 1st. Sobriety has been a cornerstone of my growth and transformation, and this milestone serves as a reminder of how far I’ve come and how much there is to look forward to in the journey ahead. My kids usually spend NYE with their father, so I love to mark the occasion with a sunrise ocean swim with my closest friends, followed by a special date with my partner, David.
What Are the Biggest Lessons of 2024?
Before looking ahead to 2025, I always recommend taking a moment to reflect on the year we’re wrapping up. Consider these questions:
What have been the biggest lessons or takeaways this year? Think about your wellbeing, work, relationships, or other areas of your life.
What habits, beliefs, or commitments no longer serve you? Even if you’re not ready to let go yet, acknowledging them is the first step. (I didn’t plan to get sober until the day I did!)
What drained your energy, caused stress, or pulled you out of alignment? These areas are often where boundaries need to be set.
What are five incredible achievements you’ve made this year? Big or small, they all count and deserve celebration.
For me, 2024 has been a year of experimentation in my business—figuring out what works and what doesn’t. It’s also been a year of slowing down after an epic 2023 in which I sold my business. I’ve focused on protecting my energy and emotions with firmer boundaries in certain relationships. Most importantly, I’ve learned how to truly enjoy the fruits of my labour, embracing and enjoying life without fear that it will be taken away. David and I have also settled into a new dynamic as we’ve merged our families, which has been both a joy and a learning experience.
Carving Out Time for Rest and Recalibration
The holidays can be chaotic, but I encourage you to protect time to pause, rest, and reconnect with what’s most important. This year, I’ll be hosting Christmas (wish me luck!), spending time with my loved ones, and taking my kids to Seaworld Resort for some much-needed family fun.
I’ve already blocked out days in the calendar for rest and wellbeing. And no matter what, I never skip exercise—it’s my fuel, even during the busiest times.
Reflect, Recharge, and Reset
Here’s a simple practice to help you make the most of this holiday season:
Set aside at least 10 full hours to truly rest and recharge over the course of the holidays
The most restorative forms of rest include:
Spending time in nature.
Engaging in activities that require minimal mental effort.
Focusing on joy without attaching outcomes.
Choosing experiences that leave you feeling deeply refreshed and re-energised.
Looking Ahead to 2025
As the new year approaches, I always encourage my clients to start thinking about your goals for 2025. Use the reflections above to guide you, and imagine yourself at the end of next year, celebrating your accomplishments. What are you celebrating and would those achievements look like?
I am so excited for what lies ahead for you.
With love,
Lucy.
